Abstract
Change in medical service affects patient``s hospital choice. In the past, many patients chose a hospital passively. But nowadays, with growing competition in the medical industry, patients have various aspects to consider when they choose a hospital. There are two goals in this paper. The first is to study how the severity of medical conditions affect the importance of hospital choice. The second is to study the factors used by patients in making their choice of hospitals. The first study revealed that patients who suffer from more serious medical conditions tend to think choice is more important. According to the second result, patients with non-serious medical problems tended to prefer hospitals in close proximity but even with non-serious medical problems, medical skill was a more important factor in hospital choice. Tangible and visible factors such as medical equipment in the hospital and the organization of hospital has a stronger influence on a patient``s choice than the more superficial factors such as hospitality, kindness and familiarity of atmosphere.
